2021 Goals
Hey everyone,
I hope you had a great few weeks of relaxation this holiday season. I know all of us deserved it after a year that challenged all of us in ways that we hadn't faced before.
Thanks to all of you, Karate RX is still here when many other businesses, especially martial art studios, were forced to close. Moving into 2021 here are my goals and vision for the gym.
1️⃣ Curriculum:
I'll be developing requirements for 2nd and 3rd Degree Black Belts this year. I started on this with the introduction of a new form this last rotation.
We will be filming and posting tutorials on how to do all of our belt test curriculum. This will make it easier for students to prepare on their own and will be important for our students working toward their next black belt ranking.
We will be refining belt test sheets to be even more specific so students and parents know what is required to pass before going into a test.
2️⃣ Focus on our current athletes:
This is a goal every year. I want to make the experience and growth for each individual better. Instead of putting a large amount of time into getting new students, it has always been more fulfilling to make our current athletes stronger and experience better. Here are a few things we did in 2020.
We removed our belt promotion fee. This is the norm in the industry, so I'm going to brag about that here once more. While many studios charge $25 for a new belt, Karate RX went from $10 every 4 months to $0 without any increase in our students tuition.
We introduced weight training into our Advanced and Teen classes with kettlebells. We will keep expanding our equipment in a smart fashion this year.
We finally got black uniforms for our advanced students! (You're welcome!) 😛
3️⃣ Improved Self Defense and Sparring:
One of my weaknesses personally has always been the sparring portion of martial arts. This year we will be investing in courses created by more experienced fighters and coaches to improve our fighting game and self defense drilling to simulate being attacked on the street.
Let’s get after it.
