Beginner Karate Program (8-12 years old)

  • Stronger Martial Arts

Our karate curriculum offers a structured, skill-based approach to martial arts, focusing on developing technical proficiency and self-defense capabilities at each belt level. Starting with foundational skills, students progress through a series of ranks, each introducing more complex techniques, from stances and basic punches to advanced combinations and dynamic kicks.

Each belt level includes specific requirements for striking techniques, including boxing-inspired jabs, crosses, hooks, and uppercuts, combined with powerful kicks like roundhouse, front, side, and eventually spinning kicks. These striking skills are integrated into combinations that increase in sophistication, requiring coordination, timing, and control.

Self-defense training is an essential component of the curriculum. Students learn practical techniques to protect themselves, including defenses against wrist grabs, chokes, bear hugs, and other common scenarios. As they progress, students practice these techniques in realistic drills, building confidence, awareness, and effective responses to various threats.

Additionally, students learn traditional forms that enhance precision, rhythm, and flow in their movements. These forms reflect the artistry and discipline of karate, teaching students to combine techniques with fluidity and control.

Karate RX’s curriculum provides a clear pathway for martial arts development, ensuring students build a strong foundation and achieve technical excellence as they advance.

  • Stronger Fitness

Our Physical Fitness Program is a structured, progressive system designed to help students of all ages develop strength, endurance, and functional fitness through martial arts-inspired bodyweight exercises and skill-based benchmarks. Each belt level introduces progressively challenging push-up, squat, and core variations to build strength, balance, and proper form.

Starting with basic exercises for White Belts, our program includes gradual progressions—such as push-ups on a 30-inch box for beginners—allowing students to master each movement at a safe and achievable pace. As students advance through ranks, the exercises intensify, incorporating 1-foot and 20-inch boxes, parallette bars, and weighted squat variations with dumbbells.

For higher ranks like Blue Belt and beyond, students must demonstrate proficiency in full-range floor push-ups and weighted squats with increasing weights, meeting physical benchmarks that place them in the top 30% of their age group. Black Belt candidates, for example, are required to perform full-range push-ups on the floor and complete squats with a 55 lb dumbbell.

The program emphasizes consistency, adaptability, and form, helping students grow in physical fitness alongside their martial arts skills in a way that is measurable, goal-oriented, and age-appropriate.

  • Stronger Discipline

Karate RX’s Discipline Program for ages 8-12 is crafted to build respect, responsibility, and a positive attitude through targeted, character-building projects that evolve to meet students’ and parents’ needs. Students participate in activities like the Yes Sir / Yes Ma'am worksheet, where they earn discipline stripes by responding respectfully and following instructions promptly, fostering a habit of polite and positive communication.

Our Random Acts of Kindness project encourages empathy as students complete kind deeds for family and strangers, reinforcing the impact of small, thoughtful actions in everyday life.

With the Habits Worksheet, students commit to three daily habits—physical, mental, and gratitude-based—practicing them consistently for four weeks to develop discipline and healthy routines.

The Gratitude Attitude Project helps students recognize everyday blessings by encouraging them to avoid complaints, smile, express thanks to parents and teachers, and reflect on unique things they’re grateful for each day.

We continually add new projects tailored to areas students and parents find most challenging, ensuring our program remains relevant and supports the growth of strong character and discipline, both inside and outside the dojo.
